“The family has always been the cornerstone of American society. Our families nurture, preserve, and pass on to each succeeding generation the values we share and cherish, values that are the foundation of our freedoms.” -**Ronald Reagan**

“Eastwooded,” the president got Eastwooded during the final night of the RNC Convention. Priceless! #Clint was the biggest trend of the following day. As for the acceptance speech of the Republican nominee, all of the pundits excised quotes from Mitt Romney’s speech that were either controversial because they contained coded birther language

Tonight that American flag is still there on the moon. And I don’t doubt for a second that Neil Armstrong’s spirit is still with us: that unique blend of optimism, humility and the utter confidence that when the world needs someone to do the really big stuff, you need an American.

…or which turned the tables on the Obama campaign, diminishing it and defining his presidency as the failure it is:

The President hasn’t disappointed you because he wanted to. The President has disappointed America because he hasn’t led America in the right direction. He took office without the basic qualification that most Americans have and one that was essential to his task. He had almost no experience working in a business. Jobs to him are about government.

But the most significant point made during the entire speech by presidential candidate Mitt Romney, which has been largely passed over, was the following:

Unconditional love is a gift that Ann and I have tried to pass on to our sons and now to our grandchildren. All the laws and legislation in the world will never heal this world like the loving hearts and arms of mothers and fathers. If every child could drift to sleep feeling wrapped in the love of their family – and God’s love — this world would be a far more gentle and better place.

In these simple sentences every problem, and every solution that American must contend with was distilled into a singular concept: Familial love and responsibility.

Mitt Romney used moving examples of the sweet romance carried on by his parents for their 64 years together, and tender reflections of his own marriage and the years he spent raising his sons, to exemplify an ideal that has been largely lost in the 21st Century; the happy and functional nuclear family.  If you’ve spent more than a decade or two on this planet you realize that it was not such a long time ago that this was the norm, not the exception.  Mitt and Ann Romney are derided by the American Left because they actually live this ideal of marital equilibrium and strong parenting. The Romneys, and other traditional families, are scorned by the Left, because it has long been their goal to obliterate these ideals and replace them with perverse caricatures, dysfunctional and refashioned to fit societal trends.  Remember Communist Goals 40 and 41 as entered into the Congressional Record in 1963?

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

Prohibitions against premarital sex have been effectively eliminated by the cultural influences of entertainment, sex education, the women’s movement, and pornography in its myriad forms–including prime-time TV.  Individuals who live by the law of chastity are regarded as freakish neophytes or losers.  Virtue is vice, and promiscuity is an achievement that defines social success.

Our civilization, like those past civilizations that fell, is weakened and dying because the institution of family is being hollowed out and redefined.  When marriage, the central and immutable relationship ordained by God for the benefit of man, is subject to the whim of fashion and the strong-arm of legislation, our nation suffers.  When traditional families are attacked as oppressive and the putative heads of those families, the fathers, are branded patriarchal, abusive, brutish, and unnecessary, children are devastated. Normal social and psychological development becomes nearly impossible when healthy male role-models disappear from the lives of boys and girls.

Mitt and Ann Romney symbolize an American ideal, a human ideal; the healthy nuclear family.  They also represent one of the last strongholds of the nuclear family; the Mormon Church and the other devout religious denominations that conform to the model of traditional marriage and the raising of  children.  This is not to say that Barack and Michelle Obama do not have a solid nuclear family. It appears that they do. The great difference here is the way the opposing  personal and political philosophies of Mitt vs. Barack impact their policies. Obama’s policies weaken families, promote promiscuity with cheap and easily accessible abortion and public-dole contraceptives.   The economy which has demolished middle-class wages, increased the cost of living by 30% overall, and become a punitive hammer to the builders of small businesses, have forced a lot of women back to work who otherwise would be home with their small children. The Left refers to stay-at-home moms as “corporate wives.” Conservatives, led by Mitt Romney, refer to theirs as the most essential job on the planet.

Those days were toughest on Ann, of course. She was heroic. Five boys, with our families a long way away. I had to travel a lot for my job then and I’d call and try to offer support. But every mom knows that doesn’t help get the homework done or the kids out the door to school.

I knew that her job as a mom was harder than mine. And I knew without question, that her job as a mom was a lot more important than mine. And as America saw Tuesday night, Ann would have succeeded at anything she wanted to.

The Romneys recognize, as do most patriots, that women shape the future by the way they nurture and train the children in their lives.  There are no limits on today’s American women. They can choose to stay home while their children are young and tender. They can work their entire adult lives in any career to which they aspire. Or they can dedicate their lives to volunteerism, and to being a help-meet and co-equal partner to a husband whose destiny is to take the helm of a sinking America, and steer it away from certain disaster, as Ann Romney has chosen to do with Mitt.

Recall the moments during Romney Night at the RNC Convention. Those moments which moved the crowd, which evoked personal–even sacred–emotions from the most private portions of their hearts, were those remarks which focused on the treasured relationships that parents have to their children, and which righteous individuals have to the precious Children of God whom they serve.

I trust Mitt to lead us out of the maelstrom of immorality, socialist fiscal policy, corruption, and hate that is swirling around our great country because he understands the central and simple key to the bright and prosperous future of our land. The true hope for mankind lies in the health of a loving and connected human family.
