50 Shades of Surrender: Progressivism and Decline

July 1, 2014

For a century, Progressive policy has advanced in the United States, not because it has anything true or lasting to offer, but because its advocates have successfully convinced Americans to surrender every virtuous, God-ordained construct of civil society.

Progressive theory is based on little more than Socialist fantasies of a state-created Utopia. Having no truth at its base and no power of its own to inspire, create, or further human advancement, the Progressive Movement depends on the surrender of its opposition in order to gain ground.

For a century, Progressive policy has advanced in the United States, not because it has anything true or lasting to offer, but because its advocates have successfully convinced Americans to surrender every virtuous, God-ordained construct of civil society.

FDR opened the floodgates of Progressivism during the Great Depression. What better time to introduce the idea that government is the balm of want than during harsh economic conditions? The fact remains that FDR’s progressive push worsened the Depression, and permanently changed the way Americans view the role of government in their lives. The introduction of his “Second Bill of Rights,” a list of “new” rights that would be granted by government in a radical re-distributive model, required that America surrender the original Bill of Rights. The “Second Bill of Rights” was never formally recognized, but it became a template for Democrat policy, and still is to the present day. It also resulted in the surrender, by a generation of Americans ,of the core values of rugged individualism, self-sufficiency, and the understanding that government exists to protect the rights of individuals, not to provide for their needs, cradle to grave.

Progressivism regards the State as the absolute authority, so in order to wield persuasive authority over the people, it requires that other powers, namely God and individual sovereignty, be surrendered.

After a century of Progressive encroachment into American culture and law, there is little of value that we have not been asked to surrender. Fast forward to today and all that has been surrendered to the Progressives, and all they will continue to demand from us.

The final bastions of resistance to the wholesale surrender of truth and constitutional principles–those which gave us our liberty and power to form or destroy governments–are religious groups and self-educated Liberty-oriented organizations which refuse to bow to the demands of the Progressive Movement. Perhaps Americans are waking up to the obscene war against God and truth the Left has waged for the last 100 years. It’s important that nothing more is surrendered to those who seek to rub out God and His institutions. We must never again, as a people, allow compassion to be confused with the surrender of principle.
